ABOUT US Founded by Michelle Hall and Heather Sommerville, former classroom teachers, Steps to Success offers a broad range of services for families and children with learning and behavior challenges. Both Michelle and Heather are certified educational therapists with a specialization in a variety of intervention strategies, special education, and multi-sensory approaches. They specialize in designing interventions that are tailored to individual student needs. They implement comprehensive programs using a team-based approach. Steps to Success staff members work closely with families to improve student self-concept, motivation, and academic skill areas. Steps to Success is committed to unlocking the full potential in each and every student we serve.

As a teacher for 10 years, Michelle has worked to develop and implement many programs within the public school system. Working as a case manager for special day and resource classes, she was responsible for directing and interpreting I.E.P’s, creating appropriate student programs, and synthesizing assessment data with allied professionals and family members. Michelle has also worked with at risk students designing and teaching intervention programs for after school and summer education. She has extensive undergraduate and graduate training in general education, special education, and Montessori frameworks. |
Heather has taken her energy and enthusiasm for learning and teaching and channeled it to specifically address the needs of students with learning differences. Her knowledge and expertise focuses on making learning accessible to all students. Over the past 10 years, Heather has taught in a variety of settings. She has worked in South America, training teachers and working with at-risk youth. Heather has worked within the public school system in Watsonville as an upper-grade teacher and mentor teacher. She has extensive experience designing and implementing training programs for teachers and parents. And now as a parent of two children, Heather has experienced first hand the joy and challenges of raising children in todays ever changing world. |
